Ok, the election is over…finally. I tried so very hard not to write anything about it. To set the record straight, no I did not vote. As a matter of fact I have never voted and was only registered out of default when I got my new licence here three years ago. The whole circus thing just irritates me. The beginnings are informative and interesting, but as the months go on, the mudslinging and rumors and just plain crap begins and leaves a sour taste in my mouth by the time the polls actually open. So yes, I am glad it’s over…at least for now. I am not so naive as to think that something, anything could come up at any point and throw our whole country out of whack all over again, but for now, peace.
And Obama won. Honestly, back when it was rumored that he was going to run, back when he told Opera he would come back and announce on her show first of his intent to run, I had a feeling he would in fact run, and win. I don’t know why, it just made sense. I’m not claiming to know enough about his, or McCain’s campaigns, or politics in general to say for him to win makes sense in the total meaning of the word, but in my very humble and ignorant opinion, it makes sense.
So my hopes are that the change that everyone has been talking about, and sorely needs is on its way. I hope he can bring some light back into our country. I hope he can build us back up in the eyes of the world. I hope we can lose, or at least cut back that “bad American” persona that has been clouding other societies’ and cultures’ views of us. I hope for a little less drama and a little more peace, happiness, and contentment.
I did have hopes for McCain as well, and honestly, if forced to vote, I’m not sure who I would have voted for…even at this point. (I am a libertarian…I think, so party loyalty isn’t really a deciding anything) I am not a fan of Bush at this point in my life, although it wasn’t always that way, so I probably lean more towards Obama, but McCain had his appealing points too…oh well, doesn’t matter at this point. We have who we (collectively, not personally) voted for, for better or for worse. The only thing we can do is move forward and hope for the best, all the while bracing ourselves for the worst. Wouldn’t be any different no matter who ended up in office.
Congrats Mr. President, and all those who support you! All our hopes and fears aside, you’ve got a big job ahead of you…hope you are ready.
